Volunteer Program

The City of Ypsilanti encourages residents, community organizations and businesses to become directly involved in improving our city parks through the City of Ypsilanti Volunteer Program. The goal of the program is to have a wide range of community organizations, neighborhood groups and individuals help maintain the parks.

The purpose of this program is to build community spirit and a sense of civic responsibility. By supplementing City resources, this program will enhance the condition and beauty of our parks and will improve the quality of life in the City for the entire community.

Those participating in the program can provide maintenance assistance in the form of general park clean-up which only includes the following:

• Maintenance: trim edges, plant flowers, seed grass, repair ruts, rake safety surfaces at play equipment, and/or pick-up litter

• Painting and Graffiti Removal: bleachers, tables, benches, and/or trashcans (dark green paint only)

If you would like to do any volunteer work that is not included in the tasks above or requires the use of power tools or heavy equipment you will have to contact Public Services and seek their permission to do so. Any major self-funded improvements to any of the City’s parks must be approved by the City of Ypsilanti’s Recreation Commission.
