A Master Composter is a trained volunteer who understands home composting, benefits of compost, how to use natural mulches, and environmentally-friendly lawn care. Course topics also include water quality, waste reduction, and biodiversity. Those interested in becoming certified Master Composters complete the class, take-home exam and volunteer 12 hours/year to educate friends, neighbors, and the community.

Time: Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm
Cost: $49 Ann Arbor Residents/ $59 Non Ann Arbor Residents (includes class manual)

1. Tues, April 20 Composting basics, types of bins
2. Tues, April 27 Soils and mulching
3. Tues, May 4, Healthy Lawn care-Trey Rogers (see below)
4. Tues, May 11, Worm bins and indoor composting- Sarah Archer (see below)
* No class on May 18 (Annual Michigan Recycling Coalition Conference in Detroit)
5. Tues, May 25, Community composting opportunities, teaching others on composting- Showcase of groups using volunteers and optional student presentations. 12 volunteer hours required for master composter certification.
