In July 2009, the Ypsilanti City Council passed the Chicken Ordinance which allows residents of the City of Ypsilanti to own up to four (4) hens. The ordinance does not allow for roosters and it does not take precedence over private restrictions of individual properties, such as deed restrictions, condominium master deed restrictions, neighborhood association by-laws, etc. Please review the Chicken Ordinance and Permit if you are interested in owning hens.
